“Profilregion: High Performance Center for Mobility Research” is the association of Karlsruhe’s institutions for research and teaching in the field of mobility systems:

  • Fraunhofer-Institute for Chemical Technology (ICT) with its group „New Drive Systems“ (NAS)
  • Fraunhofer-Institute for Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (IOSB)
  • Fraunhofer-Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI)
  • Fraunhofer-Institute for Mechanics and Materials (IWM)
  • FZI Research Center for Information Technology
  • Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT)
  • Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HsKA)

It is an open innovation platform for a cooperative exchange with the industry, economy, politics and other networks.
For its activities, it utilises the rich research infrastructure and living labs in Karlsruhe, e.g. Test Area Autonomous Driving Baden-Württemberg, the labobratory-network XiL-BW-e, efeuCampus, eWayBW,…

MISSION

The High Performance Center for Mobility Research bundles and interconnects competencies and experts across disciplines and organisations. Their joint goal is to explore and develop forward-looking mobility solutions [in an open innovation platform].
It is the single point of contact for partners from its network and customers. It acts as an initiator and a consultant for the transformation of the mobility system and facilitates the transfer of new scientific findings into the economic and societal implementation.

GOALS

The common goals are to establish a bi-directional exchhange of knowledge between research institutions and industrial partners, to define research agendas, set up joint project initiatives and leverage synergetic potentials to create the greatest benefit possible for all partners involved.

effect on region

The cross-organizational bundling of technical, socio-technical and societal problem solving expertise of the partners in a high performance center helps to further fortify Karlsruhe’s status as visible centre of mobility research. At the same time, Karlsruhe also serves as proving ground for the concepts and technologies developed with the goal to preserve city and region as an attractive living and work environment despite increasing demand for transport.
