    Mobility

Mobility is essential for economic development and social participation.  This is more so in cities with dynamic infrastructural changes and increasing emission problems. The trend towards urbanization -- parallel to space problems, increased congestion and a reduction in traffic speed -- will increase the need for new mobility solutions in cities and surrounding regions.

At the same time, the population is showing signs of increasing environmental awareness with regard to climate change and local emissions, increasing mobility poverty and the desire for a green urban environment with a high quality of life. Another major challenge is the ageing of society. In order to meet these challenges, mobility services, new forms of mobility, like low emission drive trains, and must be developed and implemented to actively shape the evolving urban landscape.

The subproject "Urban Mobility in Transition" is dedicated to these aspects. The following research questions are to be answered here:

  • What are the requirements for future mobility from the viewpoint of city dwellers? Which new mobility offers appear to be particularly attractive and which deployment scenarios are derived from them? (WP1)
  • What role will alternative car drive trains and corresponding new mobility concepts play in cities in the future? What the supply infrastructure is needed for these? (WP2)
  • How can city logistics be redesigned in the future and what effects will this have on the overall mobility concept in cities? (WP3)
  • How do companies contribute to the use of new forms of mobility in company mobility management? (WP4)
  • What changes do mobility services bring about? (WP5)
  • The answers of the individual partial questions will be merged for the development of a holistic urban mobility vision for 2030 (AP7).

In addition, a conceptual regional vision will be developed in workshops for the profile region (city of Karlsruhe and surrounding area).
