Karlsruhe has long been a strong location for the research and development of mobility systems. Even Carl Benz, from Mühlburg, was a student of mechanical engineering at the Polytechnikum Karlsruhe, the predecessor of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Today, Karlsruhe has a pioneering role in the field and offers an excellent teaching and research environment. In addition to the KIT, the Fraunhofer Institutes for Chemical Technology (ICT), for Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation (IOSB), for Systems and Innovation Research (ISI) and for Mechanics of Materials (IWM), the Fraunhofer Project Group for New Drive Systems, the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences (HsKA), and the FZI Research Center for Information Technology are also based in Karlsruhe. The interdisciplinary research competences of these partners are now clustered in the Profilregion Mobilitätssysteme as a High Performance Center with the support of the state of Baden-Württemberg and contributions from the Fraunhofer Society, the HsKA and the KIT. Through shared ventures consisting originally of seven initialization projects, the partners are brought closer together, synergy potentials are utilized, and a mutual and inter-institutional exchange of knowledge is therefore initialized.

In addition to strong research, the Karlsruhe region also has a powerful industry in the field of mobility systems, including numerous specialists. The aim of the Profilregion Mobilitätssysteme Karlsruhe is to cooperate with these companies as partners in joint research projects as well as to establish a bilateral exchange of knowledge - from research to industry and vice versa. Only then can the potential to establish the Profilregion as a nationally and internationally prominent High Performance Center for mobility research and development be maximized.

We are therefore constantly looking for interested companies who would like to be involved in the Profilregion in one way or the other.

Further information on cooperation opportunities

In the state of Baden-Württemberg, the Profilregion Mobilitätssysteme is funded equally by the Ministry for Economy, Labor and Housing, as well as through contributions from the Fraunhofer Society, the HsKa and the KIT.
